Volunteer FAQs

Is there a volunteer orientation?

Yes! All volunteers must complete the online registration and orientation and bring a signed waiver to site the first time they volunteer.

What is the age requirement to volunteer on the jobsite?

Everyone on the jobsite must be at least 16 years of age. Those under the age of 18 must keep their feet on the ground at all times (no roofs or ladders) and must have their waiver signed by a parent/guardian.

What should I bring with me to volunteer?

All necessary tools will be provided on the job site. We do not provide gloves, so please bring your own if you require them. Water is provided on site, but you are encouraged to be green and bring your own bottle!

What should I wear?

Whether the task is painting, landscaping or roofing, your clothes and shoes WILL get dirty, so please dress accordingly. You MUST wear closed-toe shoes. Sunscreen and a hat are also recommended.

What time do I need to arrive on the jobsite, and how long will we work?

Plan to arrive no later than 7:45 a.m. to sign in and attend the morning safety meeting, which begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. Attendance at the safety meeting is required in order to volunteer for the day.

What if I can only work in the afternoon?

Attendance is required at the 8:00 a.m. safety meeting, where we assign and explain the tasks for the day. If you are not able to arrive at that time, you are welcome to find a day that better fits your schedule.

Are volunteers provided lunch?

No. It is recommended that you eat breakfast beforehand. Please bring any snacks you would like to have.

Can I fulfill my community service hours with Habitat (court or school assigned)?

Yes! Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator for more information at 321.728.4009x102

Do I need to have prior construction experience?

No! Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome. We have skilled staff and volunteer leaders on site to explain and supervise each task. If you are not comfortable with a task, you can simply ask to do something else.

What should I do if it is raining?

If you are scheduled to volunteer, please report to the job site regardless of weather conditions. Florida weather typically changes quickly, but we will release you from the jobsite if the weather gets too extreme for work. In the case of Hurricanes and Tropical Storms, the jobsite WILL be closed. Please follow all government restrictions and regulations.

If I am giving my time, do I need to make a financial donation as well?

Brevard Habitat does not require individual volunteers to make a financial contribution to our construction program. No individual will be turned away because they chose not to make a financial contribution. However, we will graciously accept any donations you are willing to make here (link to donation page).
